Minimum Requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: Minimum of Grade 10 or ABET Level 4 certificate and above. Applicants must submit an original certified school report/transcript not older than six months.
- Experience: At least 12 months of proven porter experience in a health environment will be advantageous.
- Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to work in a team and handle pressure while meeting deadlines.
- Knowledge of Batho Pele Principles and Patients’ Rights and Responsibilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, telephone etiquette, and willingness to work shifts.
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring efficient patient movement and support services across the hospital. Key tasks include:
- Accompanying patients using wheelchairs and trolleys within the hospital.
- Assisting with the offloading of emergency patients from ambulances and private vehicles to casualty and wards.
- Collecting, cleaning, and maintaining stretchers and wheelchairs.
- Removing deceased persons from wards to the mortuary.
- Recording patient details in the ambulance book.
- Ensuring mortuary slips are accurately completed by the wards.
- Reporting broken equipment to the Principal Porter.
This role is vital in maintaining patient care and ensuring the smooth running of hospital operations.
